The fierce fire that broke out last night on an industrial estate in Almere is still not under control. Because the fire brigade is having great difficulty reaching the sources of the fire, the remains of the building are now being taken apart with grabs.
In a multi-tenant business building there are, among other things, the Leeghalen Almere thrift store and a clothing store of Brasco BV. completely burned out. As far as we know, no one was injured.
Large black clouds of smoke can still be seen around the building. “That is the dangerous thing,” says fire brigade spokesperson Geertjan Veenstra at Omroep Flevoland . “People should definitely stay away from that because it involves plastics and insulation material. That also sets off the necessary fire alarms in the area.”
Multiple fire brigades
The fire on the industrial estate in the Almere Buiten district started around 9 p.m. and was initially fought by fire crews from Almere, Lelystad and Dronten. This morning, firefighters from the Gooi and Vecht region took over the fire.
Water transport vehicles were also used to fight the fire, so that there is a constant supply of extinguishing water.
Due to the smoke development, an NL Alert was issued for the neighborhood at 11:40 p.m. There is a residential area on the other side of the road that runs along the site. People were warned to stay away from smoke, close windows and doors and turn off ventilation in their homes.
